Hope for the future

Jesus said, Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon and in the stars, and on the earth distress of nations with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near. Luke 21.24-28.

At the time when the Jewish people are back in the land of Israel and Jerusalem is the focus of world attention (Ezekiel 36-39, Zechariah 12-14) there will be a world crisis which will cause people to be afraid of what is coming on the earth. The phrase in Greek for with perplexity which describes this time of distress is aporia which means with no way out. The human race is heading for this time of trouble known in the Bible as the Great Tribulation (Matthew 24.21-31).

At this time the world will see Jesus returning, not as a Suffering Servant to die for our sins and rise from the dead as He came the first time. He will come as King of kings and Lord of lords with all the power of God to judge the world righteously and to bring to an end the rule of the wicked. He will come with multitudes of true believers who have been saved through the ages and died and been resurrected and with those who are alive at the time of the rapture of the church and who are caught up to be with Him.

He will then rule the world during a period known at the Millennium or Messianic kingdom. For 1000 years Satan will be bound and unable to deceive the nations any more (Revelation 20), all wars will cease as the ancient prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled: For out of Zion shall go forth the law and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. Isaiah 2.1-4. The earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord and even the animal kingdom will be at peace with itself (Isaiah 11). Peace will come to the Middle East with a highway and free access between Egypt, Israel and Assyria / modern Iraq, Syria (Isaiah 19). The Lord will stand on the Mount of Olives (Zechariah 14, Acts 1.11-12) and be king over all the earth (Revelation 11.15).

This will be a prelude to the eternal state in which all believers from all ages will be with the Lord forever. Then I John saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God prepared as a bride for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, Behold the tabernacle of God is with men and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself with be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. Revelation 21.2-4.

To be a part of this great hope for the future you must now accept salvation through Jesus the Messiah who came once to fulfil the prophecies of the Suffering Servant (Psalm 22, Isaiah 53, Daniel 9.26) to die for our sins and to rise again from the dead. He is coming again soon to fulfil the prophecies of the Reigning King.

If you have not yet done this here is a prayer to accept Jesus as Saviour:

Dear Heavenly Father, I admit that I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ died in my place, shedding His blood to pay for my sins, and that He rose again from the dead to give me eternal life. I am willing right now to turn from my sin and accept Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour and Lord. I commit my life to you and ask you to make me become the kind of person you want me to be. Thank you Father for loving me. In Jesus name, Amen.
